How to measure: Place the tape about 2 cm above your eyebrows, passing just above your ears and around the back of your head. Keep it horizontal without pressing hard, and note the measurement in centimetres. If you are between two sizes, Nolan generally recommends the smaller one, because the padding settles with use.
Head shape matters too. Helmets are shaped for round, intermediate or long oval heads, so a helmet in your size can still press on the forehead or feel loose at the sides if the shape is wrong.

Open the front at a stop with one hand
If you commute during the week and take longer rides at the weekend, a modular helmet lets you lift the front at a stop to talk, drink or get some air without taking the helmet off. The Nolan N90-3 does this with a conventional flip up chin bar that opens with one hand, and its ECE 22.06 approval covers riding with the chin bar closed as a full face helmet or open as an open face helmet.
The Dual Action chin bar uses a double lever release, so it needs a deliberate movement to open. Nolan’s Microlock2 buckle pairs a ratcheting strap with fine adjustment and a double lever release, making the strap quick to fasten and adjust. The shell is Lexan polycarbonate over multi density EPS, and the helmet is made in Italy at Nolan’s factory in Brembate di Sopra.
A long, scratch resistant ultrawide visor gives a broad view ahead and is compatible with a Pinlock anti fog insert, while the VPS sun visor adds UV400 protection and anti fog treatment for changing light. AirBooster ventilation draws air in at the top and out through a large rear exhaust, the eyewear adaptive interior makes room for glasses, and the Clima Comfort padding can be removed and washed after rides in heat and humidity.

Take a look at the Nolan N120-1 if you want the chin bar to rotate behind the shell when open rather than lift above the helmet, with two shell sizes across the size range. For strong everyday value, the Acerbis Serel 22-06 has a flip up chin bar, integrated sun visor, Pinlock 70 compatibility and intercom speaker recesses in a thermoplastic shell. Compared with the Serel, the N90-3 is made in Italy, uses a Lexan polycarbonate shell and integrates Nolan N-Com systems.

Which communication systems fit?
The helmet has dedicated housings for compatible Nolan N-Com systems. Universal systems such as Cardo and Sena can also be fitted using the speaker recesses and space for a boom microphone. Controller space is limited when the chin bar is raised, so an adhesive mount may work better than a clamp mount for some units.
