How to measure: Place the tape about 2 cm above your eyebrows, passing just above your ears and around the back of your head. Keep it horizontal without pressing hard, and note the measurement in centimetres. If you are between two sizes, Nolan generally recommends the smaller one, because the padding settles with use.
Head shape matters too. Helmets are shaped for round, intermediate or long oval heads, so a helmet in your size can still press on the forehead or feel loose at the sides if the shape is wrong.

Open face visibility with a deep visor across your face
For city commuting and longer road rides in an open face helmet, the Nolan N40-5 puts a deep ultrawide visor across your face while keeping the open feel and wide view of an open face helmet. The visor is scratch resistant on both sides, and an integrated VPS sun visor with UV400 protection and anti fog treatment drops down when the light is harsh.
AirBooster ventilation channels air from the top vent through the helmet, and the open mesh liner adds airflow over the top of your head. The eyewear compatible interior makes room for glasses, and the cheek pads have removable padding, so they are easier to keep clean after rides in heat and humidity. The Microlock buckle uses a ratcheting strap for quick, fine adjustment, which can be closed while wearing gloves.
The Lexan polycarbonate shell and multi density EPS are ECE 22.06 approved, and the helmet is made in Italy. As an open face helmet it has no chin bar, so it suits riders who prioritise visibility and an open feel over the additional facial coverage of a full face or modular helmet.
