The sizes on offer vary by model.

How to measure: Place the tape about 2 cm above your eyebrows, passing just above your ears and around the back of your head. Keep it horizontal without pressing hard, and note the measurement in centimetres. If you are between two sizes, Nolan generally recommends the smaller one, because the padding settles with use.

Head shape matters too. Helmets are shaped for round, intermediate or long oval heads, so a helmet in your size can still press on the forehead or feel loose at the sides if the shape is wrong.

Open the front without leaving the chin bar on top

When you open a conventional flip up helmet at a stop or on a slow stretch of road, the chin bar stays raised above your head, where it catches the airflow. The Nolan N120-1 rotates its chin bar through 180 degrees so it stows behind the shell instead. This reduces the sail effect and aerodynamic drag a raised chin bar creates, which helps limit the load on your neck when you ride with the helmet open.

Its ECE 22.06 approval covers riding with the chin bar closed as a full face helmet or open as an open face helmet. The Dual Action chin bar uses a double lever release that works with one hand but needs a deliberate movement to open. Nolan’s Microlock2 buckle pairs a ratcheting strap with fine adjustment and a double lever release, so the strap is quick to fasten and adjust.

The ultrawide visor is scratch resistant on both sides and compatible with a Pinlock anti fog insert, and a five position VPS sun visor with UV400 protection helps with glare and changing light. Liner Positioning Control lets you adjust the liner position for a precise fit, and the eyewear adaptive interior makes room for glasses. Adjustable AirBooster intakes at the top and chin feed air through to a rear exhaust, and the cheek pads & lining can be washed once their inner padding is removed, which is useful after rides in heat and humidity. The helmet is made in Italy at Nolan’s factory in Brembate di Sopra.

Take a look at the Nolan N90-3 if you prefer a conventional flip up chin bar that lifts above the helmet, in a more accessible modular package. For strong everyday value, the Acerbis Serel 22-06 keeps the flip up format with an integrated sun visor and intercom speaker recesses in a thermoplastic shell. The N120-1 is the choice if you want the chin bar to stow behind the shell when open, with two shell sizes across the size range.

Why does the chin bar rotate behind the helmet?
On a conventional flip up helmet, the open chin bar sits above the shell in the airflow. Rotating it behind the shell reduces the sail effect and drag that can place additional load on your neck when the helmet is open.
Can I ride with the chin bar open?
Yes. Its ECE 22.06 approval covers riding with the chin bar closed as a full face helmet or open as an open face helmet.
What is a Microlock2 buckle?
It is Nolan’s micrometric chin strap buckle. A ratcheting strap gives fine, incremental adjustment, while the double lever release needs a deliberate movement to open.
Can I wear glasses with the N120-1?
Yes. The EA eyewear adaptive interior is designed to make wearing glasses easier.
Can I wash the interior?
Yes. The cheek pads have removable inner padding, and the cheek pads can be washed once it is removed.
Which communication systems fit?
The helmet accepts integrated Nolan N-Com systems. Model specific third party adapters are also available for selected Cardo and Sena units, including Cardo Edge, Neo and Pro, and Sena 50S, 20S and 30K models.
